friday creative: holiday edition #7

today's friday creative started out as a cute little place card idea from grandiflora in lynden that i of course had to make into a photo holder because, say it with me, i'm bored with frames! by the way local people, if you haven't been to grandiflora, run over right now because they have wonderful home decor stuff and they staff is so sweet.supplies:
-jingle bell
-ribbon
-photo

how to:
-tie a little knot of ribbon around the top of your bell and push to the end so the bell will sit correctly when turned upside down.
-turn your jingle bell upside down and insert photo. the larger your jingle bell, the larger the photo it can support. i used a 30mm bell and it worked perfectly with a wallet sized photo.
-that's it!

happy friday!

friday creative: holiday edition #6

today's friday creative is one of my most favorite photo decor projects and i have given them as gifts to many friends & family. (i have it on good authority that they loved them!) they are super easy to make and they look adorable grouped together (i prefer threes), photo blocks!supplies:
-wooden cubes or toy blocks (look for cubes at your local craft store and specifically look for kaiser craft brand)
-glue stick (i recommend pioneer brand)
-sand paper
-cutting tools (paper trimmer or craft knife)
-photos

how to:
-crop photos to fit cube/block (and remember to measure twice and cut once).
-adhere to cube/block with glue stick and sand edges as desired.
-ta-da!

happy friday!

friday creative: holiday edition #5

can you believe it's week 5 of our holiday friday creatives already? and now that we've had a lovely thanksgiving, i feel like i can start decorating for christmas! so i've preempted the project i had originally planned for today to bring you this wonderful project from the latest issue of the lovely country living magazine...a photo wreath. i just fell in love with this idea! i think it is a great idea for the holidays and a fabulous gift idea too!supplies:
-wreath form (they come in wire or craft board...i recommend the craft board if you can find it because it's easier to adhere photos to the flat surface)
-strong liquid adhesive (like Quick Grip or Zip Dry)
-ribbon
-photos
how to:
-first make copies of any photos that are precious originals. i used some copies of special older photos of my family and some of my favorite recent holiday photos.
-arrange photos on wreath form. once you're happy with the look, adhere with a small amount of adhesive (a small amount so photos don't warp).
-tie ribbon in a bow or knot as desired and adhere to the back of the wreath form.
-hang and enjoy!

happy friday!

friday creative: holiday edition #4

today's project is a holiday tradition in our house, photo ornaments! it is a super fun idea from the treasury girls a few years ago and we add to our collection each year. i've also made whole sets to give as gifts.supplies:
-craft glass ornaments
-ribbon
-scissors
-double-sided adhesive & adhesive dots (like Glue Dots)
-photos (printed on lighter weight paper and sized to fit inside ornament, mine are 1x1.5)

how to:
-adhere photos (or photo and message) back to back with ribbon between.
-remove top of ornament, roll photos gently and insert into ornament.
-use the end of paintbrush (or chopstick, pencil, etc) to unroll the photo inside the ornament, making sure to keep the end ribbon outside the ornament.
-adhere the ribbon to the top, outside of the ornament with an adhesive dot and trim off excess ribbon. Replace the metal top.
-ta-da! isn't it cute?!
happy friday!

friday creative: holiday edition #3

it's week 3 of our holiday projects and i hope you're having as much fun as i am! this week's project is a really fun and easy photo decor project inspired by martha stewart that can start with holiday photos and cards but easily stay up all year, a photo shutter! they make a great spot for not just photos but love notes, artwork, invitations, even mail. look how cute...
supplies:
-shutters (local bellingham girls, look for sets to "recycle" at the re-store)
-paint
-sandpaper
-assorted clips
-photos & notes

how to:
-if shutter have adjustable louvers, lock them by "up" with a small nail through the tilt bar and frame.
-paint and sand as desired.
-tuck photos & cards in shutters and secure with clips.
-wouldn't this make an adorable gift? and you could also secure the shutters to the wall in an entryway or kitchen for an organization center, so cute!
